Cover illustration for The New York Times Book Review | This accompanied a review of the fantastic book "Positively Fifth Street" written by author James McManus. An avid poker player himself, he was commissioned by Harpers to write a book on the World Series of Poker held at Benny Binion's casino in Las Vegas. He used his small advance to enter one of the many satellite poker tournaments played to give low stake players a chance to qualify for the big game. He started with about $4000.00 and manages to play himself into the finals, at one point up about $500,000.00, eventually walking away with a couple hundred thou. there are some other sub-plots but it's a great read.
