London, summer 2011. A young man shot by the police led to a bloody and smoky upheaval throughout the country. The riot, led mainly by teenagers via social media, reflected hopelessness in their own lives and fury against the government.
No Future, version 3.0.
Violent clashes with the police, cars and buses set to flames were punctuated by frenetic looting. From corner shops to megastores, single beer cans to computer sets, a total of 200 million pounds were stolen. Ironically, the consumerist revolution was devoid of any ideology.
Rather, it incarnated a longing for what society promoted and couldn’t deliver: an airbrushed heaven.
